Winnipeg-based Conviron Secures $5 Million
Contract with Monsanto
Winnipeg-based Controlled Environments Limited (Conviron) has entered
into a contract with Monsanto Corporation to supply plant growth
rooms to its new plant research facility in Cambridge, England.
The final phase of the $5 million contract will be turned over to
Monsanto before the end of March, marking the completion of the
installation of the custom designed equipment.
Conviron specializes in the design and manufacture of controlled
environment systems for the precise control of temperature, humidity
and light for research applications. Its plant growth chambers and
rooms are used extensively throughout the world by universities,
government research institutions and seed companies for agricultural,
food and pharmaceutical research.
"We are extremely proud of the work that we have undertaken with
Monsanto in North America, and to be able to extend that relationship
overseas with a project of this magnitude is very exciting for our
company," stated Conviron president and CEO Steven Kroft. "With
such rapid changes in the field of agricultural research, we have
to react to the needs of the world's leading researchers with new
designs and features such as those incorporated in the equipment
for Monsanto."
The Monsanto research team will be led by Joachim Wunn. "Conviron
is recognized around the world as the leader in its industry," stated
Wunn. "Given the size of this project and the fact that many of
our specific needs required custom engineered equipment, we knew
that Conviron was the right company for us to work with."
Conviron employs in excess of 100 people in Winnipeg, and maintains
satellite sales offices in the United States and Europe.
