FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Conviron Signs Agreement with U.S. Functional
Genomics Company Paradigm Genetics, Inc.
Winnipeg-based Conviron has announced a deal with Paradigm Genetics,
Inc. (Nasdaq: PDGM) of Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, to
supply plant growth rooms to Paradigm's new plant GeneFunction Factory
in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
Under the terms of the agreement, Conviron will supply controlled
environment systems able to accommodate up to 15,000 square feet
of plant growing space. The first phase of the project was completed
in February, and put in use by Paradigm researchers shortly thereafter.
The specially engineered rooms, which use a micro processor-based
control system to precisely control temperature, humidity and light,
will be used by researchers at Paradigm in their work in the area
of gene function discovery.
According to Neil Hoffman, Manager of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry
at Paradigm Genetics, "Conviron was selected to build our growth
rooms based on their excellent reputation in the design and manufacture
of controlled environments. Indeed, Conviron has successfully met
our exacting specifications and demanding delivery schedule. Their
technical staff has been readily available to devise custom solutions
to our particular needs and to offer support during all phases of
the construction of our new facility."
Paradigm Genetics is industrializing the process of determining
the function of genes for four major sectors of the global economy:
nutrition, crop production, industrial products and human health.
The company, which has recently completed its IPO, is involved in
collaborative ventures with life science giants such as Bayer and
Monsanto.
"It is both important and exciting for our company to have our equipment
play a part in Paradigm's research process," stated Conviron president
and CEO Steven Kroft. "We look forward to working with Paradigm
researchers well into the future to ensure that as their needs grow
and change, we can respond with new and innovative tools."
Conviron employs in excess of 100 people, most of whom are based
at the Company's head office and production facility in Winnipeg,
Canada. Since its inception more than 35 years ago, Conviron has
worked with scientists around the world, designing and producing
research facilities and equipment which meet their specific research
needs. Today, Conviron equipment can be found in universities, company
laboratories, and government-owned institutions in more than 70
countries.
