GEN1000 Chamber Capabilities

The GEN1000 is a compact, self-contained botanical laboratory that can grow hundreds of plants at a single time (up to 600 with a third shelf in the Short Plant Kit configuration recommended for schools). It offers a precisely controlled environment with programmable temperature, lighting, humidity, and C02 (optional), expanding beyond textbooks and PowerPoints to streamline plant science for teachers and students alike, and resolving the risk of experiment failures often associated with rudimentary countertop and windowsill applications.

It can be set to simulate growing conditions virtually anywhere on the planet and can be utilized 365 days a year and 24/7 regardless of a school’s location. It also monitors and records multiple data inputs and outputs at the same time to assist in research, observations and results correlation providing incomparable research scope and scale tying into math and computer science applications as well.

In addition, the GEN1000 plant growth chamber can be fitted with up to four specially configured kits each with airflow, lighting and shelving designed to suit specific plants and study applications. It is ideal for the enquiry-based curriculum of senior years students, as well as for the progressively challenging middle years, and can be utilized to teach farm-to-table agricultural principles to early years grades as well. The additional kits offer unlimited potential for experiment and research depth and scope.

Four Kits – Unlimited Learning

The GEN1000 plant growth chamber can be fitted with up to four specially configured kits each with airflow, lighting and shelving designed to suit specific plants and study applications. Each kit is switchable within a couple of hours:

Short Plant Kit

The recommended starter set-up for schools is the Short Plant Kit, which features horizontal airflow over multiple shelves (up to three), optimizing the growth area for shorter plants like Arabidopsis. This is ideal for experiments and research in propagation, genetics, physiology and other moderate light experiments, which fit well with senior years and middle years lessons.

Tall Plant Kit

Upward air flow, maximum growth height and light intensity for taller plants such as cereal crops, horticultural plants and silviculture.

Tissue Culture Kit

Low light and multiple tiers to maximize space and provide upward airflow that minimizes condensation in petri dishes and jars used in propagation and certain genetics experiments.

Incubation Kit

Low light and multiple tiers for nurturing young seedlings into shorter plants.

The Power of Data

The GEN1000 also comes equipped with Conviron’s most advanced controller – the CMP6060. In addition to powerful programming and reporting capabilities, the CMP6060 includes a full-color, high resolution touchscreen with an intuitive graphic interface. Teachers can create custom programs for key parameters such as temperature, lighting, humidity and C02 (optional) and receive audible visual notifications of alarms. Chamber data elements will engage math and computer science skills related to student data review, manipulation, correlation, chart and table construction, and experiment report building.
