Controller (14-Month Term) - Winnipeg, Manitoba

REPORTING TO: CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for overseeing financial reporting and related processes. The successful candidate will be a goal-oriented leader, technically strong in financial and cost accounting, and capable of providing solutions and analysis that improve efficiency and decision-making of the organization.

POSITION SUMMARY

  • Direct the day-to-day finance functions, monitoring effectiveness of processes and implementing improvements
  • Lead, organize, and direct the finance team personnel to a 4 day reporting close
  • Monthly preparation and analysis of financial report appropriate for departments, senior leaders and shareholders
  • Guide the general ledger structure along with the CFO and direct specific accounting treatment of transactions
  • Establish and maintain various reporting metrics, established with the CFO, to guide strategic decision making
  • Conduct business analysis or project-based analysis to support the decision making of other operating units and the executive (e.g. project postmortems)
  • Create annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, cash flow forecasts
  • Advise and monitor the application of internal controls and appropriate segregation of duties to safeguard company assets
  • Ensure timely reporting to various taxation and registration authorities (government compliance, etc.)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must hold a relevant degree from an accredited Canadian university, preferably in business
  • CPA designation; CPA, CA is preferred
  • Must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in a senior financial role
  • Preference will be given to those who possess ERP and costing experience in a Manufacturing or Production environment
  • Experience working with multi-currencies is desirable
  • Must be a hard-working and dedicated individual who maintains high working standards
  • The demonstrated ability to learn, develop, and take on more responsibilities is a preferred asset
  • Preferred experience in a multi-company or multi-division environment
  • Strong leadership attributes, with experience leading teams
  • Enthusiastic technician, with strong technical knowledge of financial reporting
  • Preference will be given to those who possess an entrepreneurial affinity

  • Schedule: 7.5-hour shift, Monday to Friday
  • Compensation: Successful candidate will be renumerated based on their skills and experience.
