Conviron Service Seminar

Today Conviron concluded its annual plant growth chamber and room Service Seminar. The service seminar has been an annual event at Conviron for over 25 years. This year the seminar was well attended with over 17 participants, including many of Conviron’s longstanding clients such as the Boyce Thompson Institute, Ohio State University, the University of Toronto, and the University of Queensland.


Participants take part in a 2 to 3-day session hosted at Conviron headquarters in Canada. There are normally two tracks during the seminar. One session is catering specifically to users, operators and researchers while the other is focusing on service technicians.

User, Operator and Researcher Seminar:

This course is aimed at those who want to increase their knowledge about Conviron plant growth chambers and rooms, their operation and service requirements. Topics deal with situations designed to reinforce practical skills regarding chamber operation. Track one for users, operators and researchers includes:

  • Basic systems overview of operation, maintenance and features of Conviron chambers and controller technologies
  • CMP5000 and 6000 plant growth chamber control system training
  • Plant growth chamber programing, advanced features and “getting the most out of your controller”
  • How to control multiple chambers from one central host computer using Conviron’s Central Management™
  • Basic troubleshooting
  • Electrostatic discharge, prevention and control
  • Psychrometric theory, the science of relative humidity as it applies to plant growth chambers


Service Technician Seminar

This course is designed for qualified trades people having a basic understanding of controlled environment equipment, refrigeration systems, and electrical systems and controls. Training track two for users, operators and researchers includes:

  • Basic systems overview of operation
  • Maintenance and features of Conviron plant growth chambers controller technologies
  • Advanced training on configurations and host computer settings for efficient management of multiple chamber networks
  • Refrigeration and mechanical system basics and advanced diagnostics
  • Dehumidification systems
  • Carbon dioxide systems
  • Plant growth chamber control system troubleshooting
  • Electrical and electronic system basics and advanced diagnostics
  • Hands on troubleshooting
  • As well as many topics from track one above
