Position Summary

Reporting to: Sales Manager, North America Commercial Production

Argus Control Systems Limited (Argus) is looking for a Business Development Representative to join our team.

You will be joining Argus at an exciting time as we move the organization into its next growth phase. The core function of the Business Development Representative is to strategically identify, prospect, and grow commercial business. Through relationship-based selling this position will identify and build strategic relationships to uncover business opportunities, analyze customer needs, identify and work with the team to customize product and service solutions to win projects and grow accounts.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Displays a focused and consistently enthusiastic approach to developing contacts, meeting potential new prospects and networking with customers and acquaintances focused on business development.
  • Responds in a timely, complete, and professional manner to all inquiries and communications between the customers, prospects, and the company.
  • Fosters relationships within greenhouse manufacturers and the dealer network, influencing them to promote products and services, and provide referrals with the goal to identify projects and development of opportunities throughout Canada and the United States.
  • Generates leads and opportunities through professional contacts, dedicated prospecting and cold-calling and drives brand awareness campaigns and lead generation via networking and associations.
  • Builds strategic opportunities that can generate leads. Continually maintains knowledge of customers' business issues, market dynamics, company vision, the competition, sales strategy, as well as products and services.
  • Assists in planning and coordinating trade shows and events. Will represent company at trade shows and events as needed.
  • Identifies and fosters potential relationships with project facilitators, project managers, and key people that have high levels of influence or decision-making authority, influencing them to purchase products and services.
  • Creates and continually updates/maintains a structured business development plan.
  • Complies with policies and procedures as specified in the Argus Employee Policy Manual and Quality Management System.
  • Travel required.

Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in business or marketing, or other relevant post-secondary education.
  • 10 years of work experience, with at least 5 years of recent business development experience selling B2B. Experience in the commercial growing or horticultural industry an asset.
  • Proven understanding of sales methodology with formal training preferred.
  • Understanding of CRM functionality and pipeline creation.
  • Proven analytic skills required as related to tools provided.
  • Basic knowledge in Greenhouse Technology and Greenhouse equipment.
  • Basic knowledge in irrigation, fertigation, water treatment/recirculation in greenhouses and indoor grow.
  • Basic knowledge on greenhouse sector/verticals, different crops that are grown in greenhouses (flowers, leafy greens, vegetables, cannabis, etc.) and their needs for optimal environmental controls would be considered an asset.
  • Basic knowledge on plant physiology, physics in greenhouses (psychometric chart), and greenhouse controls would be an asset.
