Smarter, More Intuitive Control for Your Conviron Chambers

The control system is the central nervous system of every plant growth chamber—vital to performance, reliability, and integrity. It’s the primary touchpoint between the chamber and the researcher, making it critical to set up and maintain precise experimental conditions.

Recent upgrades to the Conviron control system make it easier and more intuitive than ever to meet the demands of plant science research, keeping the established control logic users know and rely on and adding a more responsive interface that drives more confident execution.

While many of its features are all new, the CMP7000 interface feels instantly familiar, with UX design and layouts that mirror the devices plant scientists and facility managers have already grown well accustomed to.

Navigation now is faster, monitoring is clearer, and adjustments happen seamlessly to give users the level of precision they need without adding complexity to the process.

Designed for plant science research, the CMP7000 puts critical environmental controls and data front and center. Its streamlined interface enables researchers to adjust growth chamber settings quickly, maintain focus on experiments, and gain clearer insights into plant responses—delivering faster, more confident control over growth conditions.

Why this new control system, why now?

The pace of plant research and the nature of its workflows continuously evolve while usability expectations rise along with them. The upgraded CMP7000 plant growth chamber control system was built on decades of Conviron engineering - using proven control algorithms from previous systems while adopting an interface as natural to use as a smartphone.

Multiple design iterations were tested directly with users to guarantee improvements aligned with real-world research workflows and needs. Key advantages of the upgraded system include:

  • Faster remote access: Securely log in through any standard web browser on phones, tablets, or PCs to monitor and adjust chambers without extra equipment.
  • Streamlined navigation: Clear, logically organized menus reduce steps to reach settings and respond to alerts quickly.
  • Customizable interface: Arrange layouts, choose themes, and prioritize key data points to match specific workflows.
  • Seamless integration: Connect directly with ConvironDirect for consistent operation whether on-site or off-site.
  • Enhanced performance records: Expanded data logging supports compliance, troubleshooting, and long-term research analysis.

Features that set CMP7000 Apart

The CMP7000’s design puts critical information and controls front and center. Its streamlined design lets users move through settings quickly and keep their attention focused on their research. These key features form the core of the CMP7000 user experience, each designed to give researchers clearer insights and faster, more confident control.

Process Icon

Pictured below, the process icon is where it all begins. The process icon puts the chamber’s operating status in clear view. Users can see their current reading, set point, and alarm thresholds directly on the home screen to confirm conditions at a glance. A green arc traces the live reading, a triangle marks the set point, and red arcs indicate high and low limits.

If an environmental parameter exceeds its alarm limits, the process icon’s entire zone box turns red as below, immediately signaling the issue. In legacy systems, users had to spot a small alarm icon and navigate multiple screens to find the problem. The new instant visual alert saves valuable time and protects experiments by enabling faster response times.

Integrated Psychrometrics Chart

The CMP7000's built-in psychrometrics chart maps key metrics like temperature and humidity in real time, overlaying current readings with target values. It enables researchers to spot unachievable set points before they invest time or resources. Parameters can be toggled on or off for clarity, and charts can be printed for records or analysis.

By integrating the psychrometrics chart directly into the CMP7000 control system, researchers can instantly visualize operational limits without manual calculations or external references. This feature enhances understanding of plant growth chamber performance at a glance, streamlining decision-making and supporting more precise experimental conditions.

Daily Light Integral (DLI) Tracking

The DLI function automatically calculates both estimated and accumulated light exposure using programmed schedules and sensor feedback. It eliminates the need for manual DLI calculations and gives researchers a precise, real-time view of how much light their plants receive over a 24‑hour period.

The system also accounts for variations caused by shelf height or plant position within the chamber, giving users the most accurate picture of how distance from the light source affects total exposure in their chambers.

DLI is useful in plant science for a number of reasons. It's important for optimizing photosynthesis and growth conditions in light-sensitive crops, it can improve growth and yield, it enables precision agriculture, it can reduce energy waste as well as guide photoperiod and light spectrum decision making.

Other UX Enhancements

The CMP7000 also introduces key UX refinements that improve everyday operations. Banner notifications ensure that critical alerts are unmissable without requiring users to navigate through menus. Customizable layouts allow researchers to arrange their most-used data points where they need them. Enhanced data logging captures detailed performance records for compliance and long-term analysis, making documentation simpler and more reliable.

Connect directly to your plant growth chambers or rooms using ConvironDirect. ConvironDirect not only mirrors exactly what is on the control system display at the chameber, it makes it easy for users to access their chambers and rooms from a desktop, laptop or handheld mobile device. It can also save them time not having to walk to and from chambers to make programming changes.

Control Intelligence that Drives Results

The CMP7000 marks a significant advancement in Conviron’s legacy of delivering precise and dependable control systems for plant growth chambers and rooms. Designed with the needs of plant scientists and facility managers in mind, it combines proven accuracy with enhanced usability—offering an intuitive interface and powerful data tools that support rigorous, reproducible research. With the CMP7000, users gain the confidence and control necessary to maintain optimal growth conditions and ensure the integrity of their experiments from initiation to completion.
